MS-6BTSN: I enjoyed meeting with those of you who were able to make it to Back-to-School-Night on Thursday. Thank you for making the effort to attend. I hope you found it useful. It is so important that you show your children that you are interested in their education, that you want to see where they spend so much of their time, that you want to meet their teachers and find out more about their upcoming school year. One of the important items of discussion was communication. If sending an email is a more convenient way for you to communicate with me than a phone call, please feel free. My email address is john_bolender@ncsd.k12.wy.us. I generally check it a couple times a day. I would also appreciate having your email addresses as an alternative method of communication for me. Thank you … Mrs. Lavering, Mrs. Thoren, Mrs. Hultman, and Mrs. Rentz for volunteering to help with classroom jobs. TSS Interest Survey: Most of you have returned the Teton Science School survey. Support seems strong with a few wanting some additional information. I will contact those parents individually and we will be having an informational meeting for all of you in the weeks ahead. D.A.R.E and Bullying Hurts: We had our first D.A.R.E. session with Officer Bullard and our first Bullying Hurts session with the Kelly Walsh Dancers on Thursday. (There was a nice article in Friday’s newspaper on this.) Both are worthwhile programs designed to help your children make good decisions. Testing: Other than a few make-up tests, we finished with the fall NWEA growth assessments this week. Mountain Trip: Thanks so much to Mrs. Keenan, Mrs. Shaffer, Mrs. Hultman, and Mrs. Parkhurst for transporting kids to the mountain on Wednesday. The chilly windy weather made the centers difficult, but the students hung in and seemed to enjoy the activities. Hopefully, they learned something along the way. The students joined in outdoor PE games, an activity to introduce one another, nature photography, topographical mapping, and rock identification geology. All middle school students began writing about some aspect of the mountain trip to serve as their beginning of the year writing assessment. They will finish these up next week. Others: In math next week we will be working with exponents and prime factorizations. In science we will begin exploring force and motion and Newton’s Laws. There is no school Monday due to the Labor Day. Have a great weekend. |
