Hello Families!

Thanks to all of you for attending back to school night!  If you were unable to attend, we are sending a packet of papers home to you—please take the time to fill out the green sheet.  Students need to complete the blue sheets, but you are welcome to write the answers for your child if you choose.

It has come to our attention that families with yahoo and hotmail email accounts are having difficulties getting through the school district email’s filter.  If you have a yahoo or hotmail account and you email us and do not receive a response, please give us a call.  We will try to fix it, and if we can’t, we’ll give you alternate email addresses to reach us.  J

We are looking forward to a normal schedule next week.  With all the baseline testing and growth assessments completed, we can concentrate on LEARNING!!!  J

Reading Groups:

We will be meeting with reading groups four times a week (Monday—Thursday).  Students will be reading in small groups according to their reading skills.  We will be reading a variety of texts throughout the year, concentrating on narrative stories and informational text.  We are looking for volunteers to read with our kiddos during their independent reading time.  Check your schedules, and come on in!  J

Social Studies:

We are finishing our mapping unit!

Science:

Next week we will begin our study of simple machines.

Second Grade Math: Guy Sallade

Students are working with limited and missing data to answer story problems.  We are introducing coins, so if you can have them count change with you, it would help!  Please keep practicing time on an analog clock as well.

Third Grade Math: Kate Maes

We are finishing up our first unit!  Students brought home math facts and directions on Monday.  Students should be practicing these facts nightly.  If you need a new copy, please let me know and I will get them to you.  Students need to be fluent in their addition and subtraction facts before we jump into multiplication!

Caldecott/Newbery Award Book Challenge

Booklets are in this folder—they are a great place for your children to keep track of the books they have read!  J
