Reading

Letter Names

AP -

P - Knows all 54 letters

B - Knows at least 30

Letter Sounds

AP - Knows all 33 sounds required by district plus some blends and long vowel rules and can apply this knowledge.

P - Knows all 33 sounds required by district and can apply them in sounding        out words.

B - Knows 20 or more sounds and can apply some

Phonemic Awareness

AP - all rhyming, blending, sounds in isolation, all segmentation and deletion

P -  all rhyming, blending, beginning and ending sounds in isolation, word and syllable segmentation.

B -  all rhyming, all blending, and word segmentation.

Sight Words

AP - Knows 50 or more sight words       

P-   Knows between 30 - 45 sight words

B - Knows at least 15 sight words from memory (without sounding them)

Writing

Writes first and last name

AP -writes first and last name correctly with capitals at beginning and correct proportions

P - can write first and last name with correct spelling and capitals at beginning

B - can write first name, working on last, may have capital letters not always in correct place.

Fine Motor Skills

AP - Forms all letters correctly and with very nice handwriting.  Cuts with accuracy and quickness.

P - Forms most letters correctly from top to bottom and left to right. Working on penmanship.  Can use scissors to cut with accuracy.

B - Working on correct formation of letters and can use scissors independently.

Sounds and Writes Words

AP - Can write words independently.  Gets more than one thought or sentence down. Student is transitioning from inventive to conventional spelling of most words. Spells high frequency words correctly.

P - Writes words independently with beginning and ending sounds and approximate vowels.  Gets one thought or sentence down.  Spells some high frequency words.

B - Working on sounding and writing words independently.  Can get beginning and ending sounds as well as approximate vowels with some support.

Speaking and Listening

Following Directions

AP - Can follow 3 or more steps without redirection or explanation

P - Can follow 1 and 2 step directions with out support.  Can follow 3 or more steps with retelling or picture clues. 

B - Can follow 1 and 2 step directions with little support.

Project Speaking Skills

AP - The child introduces project in a big voice and projects voice throughout presentation.  The child’s eyes are on the audience.  Presentation has a sequence and shows evidence of practice.  Answers all questions about the topic and adds humor, creativity, and imagination.

P - The child introduces project in a big voice and projects voice throughout presentation.  The child’s eyes are on the audience most of the time. Presentation has a sequence and shows evidence of practice. Answers majority of questions about the topic.

B - Child need support with speaking skills.  Voice is quiet at times and eyes not always on audience. Looks to others for some support.

Project Listening Skills

AP - Student listens and responds with appropriate questions or comments.

P - Student sits and listens attentively.

B - Student has trouble listening and attending to speaker.

Math

Numbers and Operations

Number Recognition

AP -Can read all numbers to 100 as well as read most three-digit numbers.

P -Can read consistently all numbers through 20 and can read most two-digit numbers.

B - Can consistently read numbers up through 10.  Teens still hard.

Number Representation

AP - Can consistently group and represent numbers up through 100.

P - Can consistently represent numbers through 20.  Counts with one to one correspondence.  Working on grouping.

B - Can represent numbers up to 10.

Number Sense

AP - Can order numbers 1-100. Understands greater and less in both groups of objects and in numbers.  Uses counting up as a strategy to solve problems. When given any two double digit numbers, can tell what number comes in between.

P - Can order numbers 1-21.  Understands greater and less in both groups of objects and in numbers.  Can count up from a given number without recounting.  When given two numbers between 1-20 can tell which number comes in between.

B - Can order numbers 1-10.  Understands greater and less in objects, but not consistent with numbers.  Still working on concept of counting up (has to recount objects each time). When given two single digit numbers, can tell what comes between.

Number Combinations

AP-Can combine numbers past nine. (simple addition)  Working on subtraction.  Does not need fingers or manipulatives to solve.  Knows facts to 10.  Has number conservation past 10.

P-Can combine numbers up to nine. (simple addition) May need finger or manipulatives to act out problem.  Has conservation of number.

B- Working on combining numbers. (simple addition)  Needs fingers to count and doesn’t always have answer consistently.  Doesn’t yet have number conservation consistently.

Counting

AP -Can count fluently by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s past 100. Can count by 2’s at least to 20. Can count backward from 20.

P -Can count fluently by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s to 100. Can count back from 10.

B -Can start and count at least to 30 by 1’s.  Working on counting by 5’s.  Can count at least to 50 by 10’s.

Money

AP – Knows all the coins names and values.  May be working on adding values together.

P – Can recognize and name all the coins.

B – Can not name or recognize all the coins consistently.

Geometry

Shapes

AP -Can identify all two and three dimensional shapes.

P - Can identify all two and some three dimensional shapes.

B -Working on identifying all two dimensional shapes.

Sorting

AP -Can sort or classify the same set of objects in 3 different ways.

P -Can sort or classify the same set of objects in 2 different ways.

B -Can sort or classify a set of objects in one way.  May attempt a second.

Algebra

Making a pattern

AP - Can create a given pattern with 3 elements and create own with more than 3 elements.

P - Can create a given 3 element pattern.  Can create own pattern.

B - Can create a given 2 element pattern.

Recognizing and Naming patterns

AP- Can recognize and name patterns with 4 elements.

P - Can recognize and name patterns with 3 elements.

B - Can recognize and name pattern with 2 elements.

Extending patterns

AP- Can extend complex patterns with 4 elements.

P - Can extend patterns with 3 elements.

B - Can extend simple patterns with 2 elements.

Measurement

Longer, Shorter, the Same

AP -

P- Can compare an object to a tower of ten and determine if the object is longer, shorter or the same.  Uses mathematical terms - longer, shorter or same.

B- In comparing objects to a tower of ten can only sometimes determine if the object is longer, shorter or the same.  Cannot consistently use mathematical language to describe and longer/shorter/same.

Measuring objects

AP - Students can estimate and measure with nonstandard units and can also estimate and measure with a ruler to closest inch.

P - Students can estimate and measure objects with nonstandard units. 

B - Students can measure objects with nonstandard units, but needs support with estimation.

Data Analysis

Reading Graphs

AP- Student can consistently tell more or less from set of data.  Can also compare data to communicate actual numbers and categories that are equal.

P- Student can communicate which has more or less from a set of data.

B-  Student can not consistently communicate which has more or less from a set of data.

Creating A Graph

AP-

P- Student can create a picture representation from a set of data.

B-  Student can not create their own picture representation that accurately represents a set of data.

Foreign Language K-1

Communication

AP - Student uses both nonverbal and verbal responses in the target language with accurate pronunciation and sentence structure to demonstrate full comprehension of vocabulary.  Student can initiate simple oral language and exchange greetings.

P - Student uses both nonverbal and verbal responses in the target language to demonstrate full comprehension of vocabulary.  Student depends on memorized vocabulary to exchange common greetings

B- Student uses a nonverbal response or mimicry to demonstrate some comprehension of vocabulary.
