This week we continued our “Healthy Me, Balanced Me” unit. We played a game on the Promethean board that helped the students learn and understand the different food groups. Then each student drew two of their favorite foods and we sorted and graphed by food group. On Friday, we talked about eating a balanced meal. Each student made a plate to remember what a balanced meal contains.

First grade math started a new unit on patterns. Please see the back of this sheet for goals and extensions of this unit.

In writer’s workshop we conferenced with every student about their writing. Using a checklist, each student was then given new individual goals for writing. The goals for the end of the year in writing are on the back of this sheet also.

Next week we will continue our unit on health and celebrate the 100the day of school! Please see a special math homework assignment in the Reading Bag!

Unfortunately our fresh fruit and vegetable grant is close to its end. In February, we will have to use classroom snacks. Please send a snack to add to our snack cupboard. We have LOTS of fruit snacks so we would appreciate anything else. If you are interested in bringing fruits or vegetables let us know! Other popular snack items are: crackers, granola bars, beef sticks, cheese, chips, etc.

Conference slips went home in the Friday Folder. Please check your time and send back the slip confirming your conference time. We had limited time for conferences and it was difficult to schedule. We appreciate your flexibility. :) Conferences take place in the evenings of February 7th and 9th and the afternoon of the 10th. Please bring your child with you to their conference!
