Teton Science School: All student and chaperone payments have now been made. Thank you! The school will pay for the return-trip meal (pizza in Dubois), so the only meal you will be responsible for is the sack lunch on the way there. There will be additional information and reminders in the next three newsletters, but if you who would like to visit more about the trip and have some questions answered, I will be happy to meet with you. If you simply have a question or two, you can email (john_bolender@ncsd.k12.wy.us), call during non-school hours (262-5998), or write your questions in your child’s Friday folder. I would like to remind chaperones of our brief meeting at 4:30 on February 14. Chaperones for the trip are Todd Hallsted, David Law, John O’Conner, Scott Rickabaugh, Brenda Eickhoff-Johnson, Melinda Pickrell, Lisa Vlastos, and Arlene Wayte. Your children will be in very good hands.

Hopefully, your child has rounded up most of the items he or she needs for our trip. As a reminder, along with warm gloves, hat, coat, socks, waterproof boots, and clothing layers, please make sure they have the following: flat sheet, pillow case, sleeping bag, washcloth, towel, toiletries, sack lunch, sunglasses, sunscreen. If your child takes daily prescription medication of any kind, please make sure you send it with your child on the morning of our departure (Feb. 21). Medications must be in the original prescription containers with the student’s name, dosage, and instructions clearly labeled inside a Zip-Lock bag with the student’s name on it. While the students will not be able to use cell phones at TSS, there is spotty cell service for chaperones willing to walk a ways up the hill to get a signal. There is also Internet access for chaperones. Please email (john_bolender@ncsd.k12.wy.us) or call (262-5998) if you have questions. Next week’s newsletter will include a general itinerary for our trip.

Conferences: Please find in your Friday folder a parent/student/teacher conference form with your date and time.

We tried to accommodate all requests. Please confirm your scheduled time by signing and returning the form on Monday. Thank you for working with us to make these afternoon/evening conferences work. The limited time available made it necessary to schedule 5-6 conferences in a row without a break. This makes it critical to stay as close to schedule as possible. Please try to be on time and we will try to make sure you don’t have any long waits. Thank you.

Reading: We will finish the novel Tuck Everlasting next week. Students should be finished with the reading and titles by Tuesday. I have enjoyed some of our classroom discussions of this thought provoking novel.

Personal Interest Projects: Students submitted their project presentation plans this week. I am looking forward to some amazing upcoming presentations. Complete projects are due Feb. 13. Students should arrive that day with completed visuals and note cards. They should be prepared to present, having run through their oral presentations several times at home. Please encourage your children to work hard on the projects between now and the due date. The week of Feb. 13 is only a three-day week so projects will occupy most of our time. I’d like to get all of the presentations in before our trip, but if needed, we will have the 27th and 28th to finish up in-class presentations. Project presentation night is Tuesday, Feb. 28.
