What should WLC’s goals be?

Goals:

• Be more than a test score
• Successful students
• Balance Learning
• Happiness
• Well-rounded
• Global Education
• Inspired Learners-life long learning tools
• Student tutors
• Multi-aged learning-circle groups
• Uniqueness by parent voice to direction
• Woods keeps waiting list for enrollment
• Foreign language classes to be reinstated
  • Spanish
  • Chinese
• Music-band/orchestra stay 5-8
• Teacher driven curriculum rather than district driven curriculum
• Instruction driven curriculum rather than district driven
• “What are our abilities to set goals when so much of the direction is not in the control of school and parents?”
• Love of Learning/Investigation/Group Learning/Independent growth
• Discipline/Consequences
• Math program needs to:
  • ‘circle back’ to make sure concepts are understood
  • allow faster learners to move ahead
  • Need to provide ‘real world’ application examples
  • Bring in other math programs besides Investigations
  • Communicate with parents about what is being taught that week/month
  • Show there is mire than one way to learn/do something.

Parent Involvement/Responsibility

• Set high expectations from the beginning
• Clearly defined tasks
• Volunteer hours/accountability
• Mentoring families
• PTC involvement as a liaison between parents/pods (perhaps a parent representative from each pod on PTC board.
