One Response to “How can parent volunteering be encouraged?”

  1. WLC PTC Input:
The parents at Woods are amazing. I have heard from staff who split their time between Woods and other schools comment on how special our school parents are. We don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable about the time they have to volunteer at Woods. Everyone is busy with many commitments pulling us in different directions. We want to take something that’s already good and make it better.

Your suggestion to make more opportunities to volunteer at home is exactly the kind of feedback we were hoping to get. The PTC board wants to focus on improving communications, organization, and motivation to positively affect parents and students. A measurable output may be increased volunteer hours but the outcome desired is providing our children with the best education possible.

The staff at Woods believe that family involvement demonstrates to the children that we are involved and interested in what they are doing. I believe that being seen in an active role with a kids education sends a positive message to the child. The time we give to the school allows the staff to spend more time focusing on students’ needs. We want to empower parents to find ways to volunteer that fit their unique family situation and daily challenges.
